SHANGLA: Two students were electrocuted while hoisting the national flag when the metal flagstaff touched a live power line in the government primary school, Piza Puran, here on Monday.

Aloch police station SHO Sher Hassan Khan told Dawn that the incident occurred when an Independence Day programme was underway in the school in Puran tehsil.

The victims were identified as nine-year-old Rehan Khan of grade 3 and seven-year-old Usman Gul of grade 2. They were raising the steel flagpole to hoist the national flag when it touched the power supply line and they were electrocuted.

The police officer said that both the students were shifted to the Peer Mohammad Khan Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.

The bodies were handed over to their families after fulfilling legal formalities at the hospital.

The locals told Dawn that the school had no building and the students were forced to receive education in a tent.
