RAWALPINDI: The city traffic police on Friday said it would arrest anyone found doing wheelie along with mechanics making modifications in the bikes for this purpose.
City Traffic Officer (CTO) Yousuf Shahid issued a traffic plan for three days starting from August 12 to August 14, the Independence Day.
The CTO said special traffic squads had been formed to check wheelies as pickets would be set up at different points in the city and cantonment areas.
The CTO said mechanics modifying motorbikes for doing wheelie would also be arrested in the wake of investigations from the arrested bike riders.
In June this year, the traffic police had launched a similar campaign against wheelie doers but in retaliation a traffic warden was shot and injured while a police checkpost was attacked by angry mob to get their impounded motorbikes back.
The traffic warden, Sohail Shahid, who was shot and injured, has not recovered to assume his duty so far.
The CTO said whosoever caught using a modified motorcycle or doing wheelie would be put behind bars.
“This time the police will use all tactics to check wheelies. And for this purpose, a special traffic plan has been chalked out which will be implemented from Saturday to Monday night,” the CTO said.
