KARACHI: Formidable Naval marksmen opened their campaign on sound footing, lapping up as many as 13 gold medals on the opening day of the Parvez Abbasi Open Shooting Championship which commenced at the PN Shooting Range, Karsaz, on Friday.

The Naval shooters dominated the individual and team events of Air Pistol men’s juniors, Air Rifle men’s juniors, .22 Open Sight Rifle, Air Rifle men’s youth, Big Bore Rifle Iron Sight men’s and Air Pistol men’s youth

Sindh’s Azeem-ur-Rehman denied Navy a cleen sweep on day one by winning gold in the individual event of the Big Bore Pistol Professional.

Veteran shooter retired Cdre Ghazanfar Abbas, who is also the COO of the Karachi Golf Club, had to be content with silver while Hamza Khan of the Karachi Garrison Shotgun Shooting Range (KGSSR) took the bronze.

Besides 13 golds, Navy had collected 11 silver and six bronze medals.

Sindh is placed second with 1-2-7 medals followed by the KGSSR is third with 0-1-1.

Earlier, Amir Abbassciy, son of the late Parvez Abbasi formally inaugurated the event by firing a shot at the pistol range.

.22 Open Sight Rifle (team): 1-Navy A 585/600; 2-Navy B 582/600; 3-Sindh A 571/600.

Big Bore Pistol Professional (individual): 1-Azeem-ur-Rahman 182/200 (Sindh); 2-retired Cdre Ghazanfar Abbas 181/200 (Navy); 3-Hamza 178/200 (KGSSR).
