ISLAMABAD, Aug 13: Rescue-15 is planning to disconnect the telephones of persons making obnoxious calls to the emergency cell.

The deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Rescue-15, Sardar Sadaqat Hussain, on Tuesday said the cell was responsible for providing assistance to people after receiving complaints on telephone.

But, unfortunately 95 per cent of the calls were obnoxious, he added.

The emergency cell is preparing a list of habitual callers and will shortly take action against them in collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Company or the concerned cellular service providers, Sadaqat Hussain said.

“The Rescue-15 staff are also human beings and they lose temper when callers ask them personal and stupid questions.”

More intriguing is the fact that the same people claim that the staff misbehave with them, he added.

The DSP said 60 per cent callers were women, 25 per cent men and 15 per cent children. Most of the callers are from affluent families and try to be imposing, he added.

He admitted that the Rescue-15 staff is gradually becoming used to the obnoxious calls and try to appease themselves by talking to the callers whenever they feel bored.

The DSP said the cell received a minimum of 3,000 calls daily. The cell has five telephone lines and receives about two calls per minute owing to which the lines remain busy most of the time, he added.
