HYDERABAD, Aug 13: An amount of Rs217 million — Rs67 million from the Sindh government, Rs100 million from the federal government and Rs50 million from the Punjab government — has been received for providing assistance to rain victims of the province.

This was said by the Sindh additional relief commissioner, Ali Nawaz Mallah, while talking to journalists at his office here on Wednesday.

He said out of the total amount, Rs87 million was distributed among eight districts. He said Rs40 million was given to Badin, Rs15 million to Thatta, Rs5 million to Tharparkar, Rs10 million each to Hyderabad and Karachi, Rs2.5 million each to Dadu and Larkana and Rs2 million to Shikarpur district for relief operation.

As many as 1,000 blankets and 200 tents were distributed in the Badin district and 300 tents and 500 blankets in the Tharparkar district from relief goods provided by the federal government’s cabinet division.

Mr Mallah said 1,500 packets of food, each containing 10 kilograms flour, five kgs rice, five kgs pulses, one kg sugar, 2.5 litres cooking oil and 500 grams milk powder, were sent to Badin and 500 packets each to Thatta, Tharparkar and Dadu.

He said being the worst affected district, Badin had received more food items from the food department including 699,366 kgs flour, 208,732 kgs rice, 44,466 kgs sugar, 14,041 kgs dates, 620 packets of tea, 17,7754.5 kgs pulses, 8,000 kgs Gur, 60 cartons of matchboxes, 3,000 kgs salt and 15,050 kgs ghee.

Similarly, Thatta received 558,280 kgs flour, 77,590 kgs rice, 13,600 kgs pulses and 6,661 kgs ghee and 12,000 kgs flour was provided to Tharparkar.

In addition to Rs50 million in cash, the Punjab government also dispatched food items to the DCO of Badin which include 4,800 20-kg bags of flour, 1,600 50-kg bags of rice, 600 12-kg cartoons of ghee, 400 50-kg bags of sugar and 16,000 pairs of shoes for rain victims.
