ISLAMABAD, Aug 12: Pakistan on Tuesday lodged a formal protest with the US government over the Pakistan-Afghan border incident a day earlier that resulted in death of two Pakistani soldiers and injury to one.
A strong protest was lodged simultaneously with US officials in Islamabad and Washington by Pakistan that demanded an immediate inquiry into the circumstances that led to the firing by the US forces across the border on Monday.
The US deputy head of the mission, Mr William Monroe, was summoned to the Foreign Office.
“The US deputy head of the mission conveyed the US government’s deep sorrow and regret over the casualties among Pakistani troops and assured proper investigations would be conducted into the incident,” Foreign Office spokesman Masud Khan said.
