SHANGLA: Tehsil council, Puran, unanimously passed its Rs114.4 million budget for the fiscal year 2017-18 here on Wednesday.

The budget session was held at the tehsil council hall at Aloch Puran with convener Gohar Ali in the chair. Tehsil nazim Raja Usman and members from both the treasury and opposition benches attended the session.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Usman said that all the members would be asked to present details of the development schemes they wanted to start in their respective areas. He urged the councillors to work together for the development of Puran to make it a model tehsil.

He said that funds would be provided to all union councils equally without any discrimination. Opposition leader Faisal Zeb Khan could not attend the session.

Meanwhile, district nazim Niaz Ahmed Khan criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led provincial government for not giving sufficient funds to the local governments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly Shangla district.

The district nazim was addressing a public meeting in Ranyal Shahtooth the other day. District councillor from Ranyal, Sarfaraz Khan, was also present on this occasion.

He said that the district government was making efforts to resolve public issues despite problems being created in its way. He said that the LG system had virtually failed to deliver owing to lack of funds.

FAKE CURRENCY SEIZED: Police here on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a man who was spreading fake currency in Lelonai area and recovered fake notes amounting to Rs25,000 from him.

Officials of the Alpuri police station told this scribe that they had arrested one Shahid Hussain and recovered fake currency notes from his possession during an operation in Alpuri. He said that a case had been registered against the suspect.

Meanwhile, police arrested a man for sexually assaulting a girl in Karora area.

An official said that the suspect, identified as Mohammad Alam of Tangai Karora, was nominated by a girl in her report to the police.

The police said that they had started investigation, while the girl was sent to DarulAman in Swat.
