KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal and Director General (DG) of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, Major General Mohammed Saeed on Tuesday chaired separate meetings on security situation in Karachi after recent attacks on policemen that had claimed four lives within a week.

The meeting chaired by Major General Saeed, held at the Rangers’ Headquarters, was attended by Sindh IG A.D. Khowaja, Karachi police chief Ghulam Qadir Thebo and other senior officials of the law-enforcement and intelligence agencies.

“The meeting participants devised a strategy for combined operations and to improve communication between law enforcing agencies,” said a statement issued after the meeting. “The Rangers DG also decided that anyone providing authentic information regarding attacks on police or the identity of the attackers will be awarded Rs10 million. Secrecy regarding the name of the informant will be maintained.”

At the meeting chaired by the Sindh home minister, prevailing law and order situation in Karachi was reviewed. The Karachi police chief, additional IG traffic, additional IG CTD, SSP Malir, DIG East and other senior officials attended the meeting, said a statement issued here.

“The minister directed the officers to keep a strict watch over the terrorist and criminal activities in the city,” said a home ministry statement. “The minister expressed his concerns over the martyrdom of policemen in the city. He vowed to take vigorous actions against terrorists and criminals in the city. The minister also issued directives for increased police patrolling to counter any untoward situation.”

He also issued directives to provide security to traffic police sergeants. He pointed out that the Sindh government had allocated a huge amount for the Sindh police and other law enforcement agencies to protect life and property of the people.
