QUETTA: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), Balochistan chapter, has underlined the need for ensuring rights of minorities through legislation.

This and other issues were discussed at a consultative meeting presided over by HRCP Balochistan chapter chairman Tahir Habib Advocate.

The meeting expressed concern over delay in legislation for the protection of minorities’ rights.

Addressing the meeting, minority members in the Balochistan Assembly William Barkat and Anita Irfan claimed that considerable legislation had been done by the house and steps were being taken to implement them to ensure the rights of minorities.

They informed the meeting that soon a bill would be moved in the assembly for legislation against early marriages.

The meeting observed that there was a need to introduce amendments to laws regarding the rights of minorities and their demands.

“Implementation of demands is possible only through amendments in existing laws pertaining to minorities,” Mr Habib said.

Other issues regarding human rights also came under discussion.
