PESHAWAR: The business community has sought compensation for the traders who suffered huge losses during recent rains in various low-lying areas of the provincial capital.

The demand was raised by Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Haji Mohammad Afzal during a meeting with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak here on Friday.

According to a statement, the SCCI chief apprised the chief minister of the problems being faced by the traders and demanded immediate attention of the provincial government to enable the affected people to revive their businesses.

Haji Afzal pointed out that the rainwater had badly affected the shops located in Peepal Mandi, Qissa Khwani, Sabzi Mandi, Bazazlaran, Bazaar Khudadad, Kabari Bazaar, Reti Bazaar and Ashraf Road, where the business community was unable to revive the activities without government’s financial support.

The SCCI chief suggested that the government announce a financial package for the affected traders. He also invited the chief minister to the chamber so that the community people could discuss with him matters pertaining to trade and commerce activities in the province.

Mr Khattak appreciated the business community for continuing their activities despite worst kind of terrorism in the province. He assured that the provincial government would take serious steps for implementation of the recommendations for speeding up industrial, trade and commerce activities in the province.
