British singer Ed Sheeran claims that him leaving Twitter after his Game of Thrones cameo was just a coincidence.

According to The Independent, the singer said he "always intended to come off Twitter" and that it has nothing to do with the criticism he received for his cameo.

The 'Shape of You' singer deleted his Twitter account a month after announcing that he'd stop using it. However, he has now reactivated his account.

He took to Instagram to clarify, "I came off Twitter coz I was always intending to come off Twitter, [it] had nothing to do with what people said about my Game of Thrones cameo."

Sheeran also made sure to tell people that he's proud of his cameo in the American TV series. "I am in Game of Thrones, why the hell would I worry what people thought about that. It's clearly f***in' awesome."

He explained that he had already lessened his activity on Twitter due to online hate.

His Game of Thrones cameo featured him singing a song and saying two lines as a soldier of the Lannister army. Because that's what a cameo is.

The director of the episode, Jeremy Podeswa, defended the cameo, complimenting the singer's work. "He was appropriate for the part because he needed to sing... If people didn’t know who Ed was, they wouldn’t have thought about it twice."

He added, "The hoo-ha seems to be from things that are outside of the world of the show. In the world of the show he did a lovely job, and he looks like he belongs in that world."

We have to agree with the director. Sheeran looked just fine in the episode and it seems that the hate is unnecessarily biased.

Earlier, before the release of the episode, co-showrunner David Benioff had revealed that Ed Sheeran was already announced to play a cameo in the series. "We knew that Maisie [Williams, who plays Arya on the show] was a big fan of Ed Sheeran, and for years we've been trying to get him on the show so we can surprise Maisie. This year we finally did it."

We have a feeling we'll see more of Ed Sheeran in the next episode.
