KARACHI: First-class player Mohammad Waqas and skipper Amjad Khan along with spinner Shahzaib Ahmed Khan were instrumental in inspiring New Al Habib CC to a crushing 175-run defeat of Cliff Strikers CC in the Second Anza Cup T20 cricket tournament here on Tuesday.

Put into bat in the Group ‘B’ fixture at the RLCA Gulberg Ground, New Al-Habib CC amassed 232-5 with Waqas and Amjad leading the run avalanche.

Amjad faced only 38 deliveries in making 80 that contained seven sixes and six fours, while Waqas smashed his way to 93 from only 45 balls as he struck six fours and four sixes. The two added 83 for the second wicket.

Cliff Strikers CC, in response to the big chase, crumbled under pressure to be dismissed for a miserly 57 in 11.3 overs. Hamza Saeed was the top scorer with 18.

Leg-spinner Shahzaib proved unplayable by capturing five wickets for just 11 runs in three overs. He and Amjad jointly shared the man-of-the-match prize.

Summarised scores:

NEW AL HABIB CC 232-5 in 20 overs (Mohammad Waqas 93, Amjad Khan 80, Arsalan Bashir 28); CLIFF STRIKERS CC 57 in 11.3 over (Hamza Saeed 18; Shahzaib Ahmed Khan 5-11).
