So much for holding auditions in South Asia...

Disney's remake Aladdin finally finds itself a cast but fans are disappointed. Here's why: Aladdin will be played by Egyptian-Canadian actor Mena Massoud, Jasmine by Power Rangers star Naomi Scott and Genie by Will Smith, reported THR.

After months of search and over 2000 auditions for the lead roles in South Asian countries, Guy Ritchie went with (essentially) non-Arab actors for his upcoming film.

Consequently, people are not happy with the final casting because, dhoka, and mostly because Naomi Scott is a white woman playing the role of Jasmine.

Let's hope they cast fitting actors for Sultan, Jafar and his sidekick Iago.

Aladdin will being shooting in London next month.

Whats wrong with the people? This is an animated movie, you will just hear the voices. Its like asking Disney to cast a real lion for the voice of Simba!

Mena Massoud is a Coptic Egyptian, so if people have issues with the casting, they might as well produce their own movie...don't like it, don't watch it!!

Why not Naomi Scott. She looks Asian anyways. Just that her Dad is a white Brit does not take away the fact that her Ugandan-born Gujarati mother gave her enough South Asian genes. She sings. She acts. I guess that's a good casting coup. Relax, people.

My point is simple, producers are making this movie based on the assumption that actors that they will hire will be best able to pull off the relevant character. Whats the point in hiring unfit actor to perform a role and they suck big time.
