PESHAWAR, Aug 9: None of the 10 suspects arrested in connection with the Rashid Town triple murder case has so far been produced in a court of law by the police.

It is learnt that since July 24 (the day murder took place) the police have arrested 10 people, including two women, but none of them has been produced in a court in clear violation of law.

Under the Criminal Procedure Code, a suspect has to be produced before a court within 24 hours of his/her arrest. However, the local police rarely follow such provisions of law.

Sources claimed these suspects, who had been kept at the CIA centre, were being tortured to make them confess their involvement in the case.

Capital City Police chief Tanvirul Haq Sipra claimed the police had produced one of the suspects, Faisal Baloch, before the court and he was not in illegal detention. However, he denied arrest of other nine suspects.

Faisal Baloch, a friend of one of the deceased, was arrested from Islamabad about 15 days ago. He was one of the several friends of one of the deceased who had been taken into custody by the police.

He was released when he produced evidence that he was in Islamabad on the day murder took place. However, he was again arrested the very next day.

The police have also detained two sisters — Shakila and Fazila — who were housemaids of Faisal, and also arrested their father, who came to the city from his village to see his daughters.

Some of the other people detained by the police included Noor Mohammad alias Makoo, Anas, Hafeez, Shahid, Pervez and Mir Alam.

A week ago, Anas’s father filed a writ petition in the court of district and sessions judge Hayat Ali Shah, seeking production of his son. However, the police denied Anas arrest and the plea was dismissed.
