KARACHI, Aug 8: The Sindh Minister for Local Government, Mohammad Hussain, chaired a meeting of the Sindh Local Government Commission here on Friday.

The meeting constituted a committee to review various rules and regulations of the commission and submit recommendations thereof within a month. The Additional Secretary, Local Government, Rizwan Ahmed, has been appointed as convener of committee and Ghulam Arif as secretary/member.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammed Hussain made it clear that Nazims and Naib Nazims of towns and UCs would face action if the SLGC’s inquiries found them guilty.

The minister stressed on expediting the pace of inquiries in order to restore justice to the people at the earliest.

Taking notice of irregularities in the auction of Bakra Piri, Hatri, Taluka Hyderabad, the commission decided to take action against all those responsible for the auction.

The Bakra Piri was earlier auctioned for Rs2 million but on the commission’s intervention later, it was re-auctioned for Rs6 million. The meeting decided to finalize and issue showcause notice to the Nazim and TMO of Talhar in this regard.

The commission also decided to freeze the accounts of UC Sango Lane as it did not submit the records pertaining to certain charges against them. No reply was received in response to several letters sent to the UC.—APP
