Ramazan is a month of giving. While a lot of us enjoy scrumptious meals during iftar and sehri to keep us going, it is worth remembering that millions in the country go to sleep with an empty stomach every day.

But what if feeding those less fortunate people of Pakistan became as convenient as posting on social media?

During this holy month of Ramazan, Adamjee Life wants to help the underprivileged by doing just that with their #FillThePlate campaign.

The initiative is aimed at contributing to the critical issue of eradicating hunger and malnutrition in Pakistan, where nearly 22 per cent people suffer from physical and mental weaknesses due to malnutrition.

For each tweet/post done with the hashtag #FillThePlate, Adamjee Life will provide one meal to a person in need. The mechanism of the campaign is simple: 1 tweet/post = 1 meal.

A number of celebrities and known personalities have voiced their support for the noble initiative; legendary ex-cricketer Wasim Akram is one of them.

Akram recalls how difficult it would be to stay hungry and thirsty during practices and matches, despite years of training. He is therefore playing his part in combating hunger in Pakistan with #FillThePlate.

As part of the initiative, Adamjee Life is organising iftar drives at Edhi homes and Saylani Welfare Trust centres across the country.

The organisation has also set up road side camps at various locations where the needy are served iftar every day. Adamjee vans can also be seen distributing food to the underprivileged on the streets. These will continue till the end of Ramazan.

In Karachi, some of these roadside camps were set up in Nazimabad, Naagan Chowrangi, Sakhi Hasan, Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

By clicking on the hashtag #FillThePlate on Twitter and Facebook, people can see Adamjee’s activities as part of the campaign.

The purpose of using a hashtag and posting it on social media is to raise awareness about the campaign and have more and more people join in the movement and reach out to someone in need near them.

Basic nourishment can go a long way in ensuring a healthy future for the country. When a tweet or a post is all it takes, then what's stopping us from helping the cause of fighting hunger and malnutrition in Pakistan?
