KARACHI, Aug 6: India consolidated its position at the points table overcoming arch-rival Pakistan in Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle East (BFAME) Championship at Amman (Jordan) on Wednesday, according to a message received here.
India started with a thumping victory against Syria 25-5 then kept their winning streak against Bangladesh 25-5 Jordan 19-11,Sri Lanka 25-0 and whipped Pakistan 19-11 in their last league round robin league encounter.
Indians finished unbeaten with a total score of 168 Victory Points (VPs) after the league rounds.
According to message the championship which started Aug 3 has already reached to its half way mark after the completion of sixth round of the first phase seven teams from Pakistan, India, Jordan, Bangladesh, Syria, Palestine and Sri Lanka are competing.
The Zonal championship is the qualifying round for the World Bridge Championship, known as Bermuda Bowl.
Pakistan is holding second position far behind India with 133 VPs. Hosts Jordan is placed third with 117 VPs.
Pakistan defeatedd Bangladesh 20-10, Sri Lanka 30-20 Jordan 24-6, but lost three matches one from India and the other by Syria 10-20 and Palestine 10-20.
According to the format, top two teams for BFAME will qualify for the Bermuda Bowl.
When second round began last evening, Pakistan won its match against Sri Lanka 20-10 and surprisingly Palestine lost 25-0 to Bangladesh, which raised Pakistan’s position at the victory Points table.
Pakistan’s ladies team finished second at the conclusion of the first round robin, but relegated to third sport when they played at level terms against India in the first match of the second round robin.
Besides Pakistan and India, Jordan, Sri lanka and Palestine have fielded their ladies team for the Venice Cup.
There are only four teams in the Seniors Section, in over 55 years of age group.
In this Section Pakistan is leading conveniently with the score of 90 VPs, followed by Jordan-2 (62), Jordan-1 (58) and Palestine (22) VPs.
Following are leading men’s team in BFAME. India 168, Pakistan 133, Jordan 117, Bangladesh and Syria tied 115, Palestine 110 and Sri Lanka 94 VPs.
