KARACHI, Aug 5: Irfan Mehdi’s five-year-old chestnut horse Sovero, is on song for a hat trick, when the Summer Race Meeting resumes on Wednesday afternoon at the Karachi Racecourse, after a lapse of nearly two weeks due to the heavy rains that lashed the city.

Participating in the fifth race of the afternoon going over the sprinting distance of five furlongs, Sovero however will have to bring out his best to overcome the dark bay colt Visitor and Rajwar.

In a field of 15 runners, Visitor should grab the second spot from Rukhsar with Great Bakht completing the frame.

Seven events has been chalked out for the afternoon’s programme, all going over the sprinting distance of five furlongs.

The first race begins at 1-30 p.m.

In the opener which has 16 runners in contention, Syed Ali Gohar Shah’s bay mare Noor-un-Nisa looks a good thing to deliver the goods, followed home by Bye Bye and Richy Rich.

But then again, Ali Gohar could also go with his dark bay colt Silver City, finishing fourth behind stable companions Royal Promise, Darbari Malang and Major Dandy just two weeks ago.

Thousand Up is fancied to pick up the spoils in the next race from top weight Tom Cruise and Silent Fire.

The thoroughbred dark bay eight-year-old horse National Lining finishing on the board on his last two outings could win the third race with Rukhsar and Grey Boy close on his heels.

The next event on the afternoon’s programme should be filled with plenty of thrills, with Love Land, Power Plus and Mahsagar, battling it out in the straight for the top honours. But if the chestnut colt Your Honour is ticking, it will be another story to tell.

With only 11 runners contesting in the sixth event, Sweet Emotion should get the better of Snake Eyed and Flying Bird. But danger lies in the shadows in the form of the thoroughbred bay mare Miss Oozi.

The concluding event seems reserved for the bay six-year-old Roberto Carlos Fan, closely followed home by Ray Of Light and Wonder Thunder.

Irfan’s Mehdi four-year-old chestnut Defence Academy will also put up a good performance over the five furlongs.

However, with the racing track drying up due to the recent rains, a few upsets could be the order of the day.

The racing fans should be very selective while placing their bets.
