THE WEEK THAT WAS

Woh Aik Pal | Hum TV Saturday 8.00pm

Sameera Fazal pens another spell-binding story. Aarish (Feroze Khan of Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai) constantly badgered by his dominating fiancé (Ramsha Khan of Thora Jee Le fame) and his not-so-cool friends, sets out to prove he is not a sissy by participating in a mobile-snatching-for fun project and in just one unfortunate moment, his life changes completely when they kill a man.

Life also transforms for the young wife and child of the victim. Directed by Furqan Khan, Woh Aik Pal (WAP) is about living with guilt and fear. After playing a strong woman as Mahi in Khuda Mera Bhi Hai (KMBH), Aisha Khan is back in WAP playing a vulnerable young widow. Likewise, after playing the angelic Mikael in KMBH, Alyy Khan is back as an all-consuming, venom-spitting villain. Fourteen episodes later, WAP is still gripping and slick, with a fresh cast and stylish ambience despite the complicated situation it portrays.

Rasm-i-Dunya | ARY Digital Thursday 8.00pm

Listed among the 50 Sexiest Asian Women in the annual issue of British publication Eastern Eye not so long ago, Armeena Khan is back in the much-awaited and much-publicised serial Rasm-i-Dunya (RD). But Abdulla Seja [Moray Saiyyan and many more serials], director Roomi Insha [Tair-i-Lahooti] and writer Imran Nazir [a Lux nominee] couldn’t find an interesting role for her in RD. She sits pretty and bawls away buckets just like Ushna Khan did in Bashar Momin.

As the twisted Tai Jaan, Samina Peerzada’s sole purpose in life is to take revenge from Armeena Khan’s character Haya’s father (Jawed Sheikh), who was her old flame and a wimp who had dumped her once upon a time. Tai Jaan will go to any length for this so she marries off her psychotic son [Sami Khan] to Haya, a medical student who is incredibly naive and oblivious to her husband’s indisposition. The episodes are slow, miserable, predictable and boring. But according to the content team, the first six episodes led the slot and if that is true it must either be because of Armeena’s fans waiting for her to do a comeback after Bin Roye or because of Bilal Abbas (the asli hero) who apparently is poised to be the new male sensation.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR (OR NOT)

Jeeto Pakistan | ARY Digital Every night 9pm

What made Fahad Mustafa a mega star, his films or Jeeto Pakistan (JP)? He embarrasses Santa Claus by throwing away cell phones, gold, washing machines, Umra tickets, cars and other consumer goods at his audiences who are ready to go down on their knees and beg, do push-ups, hand-wrestle, eat cake, melons and mangoes like animals (with their faces in a dish) as long as they can win something. A little dignity, intellect, creativity and general knowledge won’t hurt the game show.
