SIALKOT, Aug 5: The water level in Nullahs Aik, Bhed and Palkhu dropped considerably on Tuesday, as there was no rain in the Sialkot city and its adjoining areas after the last midnight.

A sunny day negated the forecast of the local meteorological office of more heavy rains in both Sialkot and Narowal and in the catchment areas of the neighbouring Jammu and Kashmir.

The three to four feet flood water was cleared away from the roads and streets without doing any further damage when the overflowing nullahs returned to their normal condition. However, some low-lying areas, including the Sialkot railway station, remained impassable with two to three feet water splashing.

District Nazim Mian Naeem Javed, who has been monitoring the situation, told this correspondent that the situation was under control now. Efforts were being made for the early restoration of normal life in the district, he added.

Meanwhile, rescue operation in Pasrur’s inundated rural areas was going on and stranded people shifted to safer places till last reports came in on Tuesday evening.

The railway track from the Sialkot-Pasrur-Narowal section was under two feet water, though almost all the roads were opened to the traffic.

SHOT DEAD: A landlord and his son were shot dead by their kin over a dispute at Adamkey Cheema village, Daska, on Tuesday afternoon.
