SAHIWAL: A court under the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) system will start functioning in Pakpattan district from June 1. Muhammad Awais has been appointed as its first judge.

This was told by Pakpattan District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Aslam while talking to the media in his office on Friday.

While elaborating the ADR or Masahlti Adalat, he said the concept was introduced by the Lahore High Court (LHC) to counter the delay in resolution of cases pending across Punjab. He hoped the ADR would improve efficiency and effectiveness of the lower judicial system and reduce the backlog of the pending cases.

Senior Civil Judge Rana Shakeel Ahmed and Muhmmad Awaz were also present.

WORKSHOP: A two-day workshop on writing a scientific research proposal ended at the Comsats Institute of Information and Technology (CIIT).

The workshop was co-sponsored by the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) and the CIIT. Twenty-five faculty members from the CIIT and other educational institutions participated in it.

Dr Ahmed Ali, focal person of the CIIT, said the purpose of workshop was to train the faculty and researchers on how to get funding from national and international research agencies.

The researchers from the University of Sahiwal, Comsats, Vehari Campus, GCU, Faisalabad (Sahiwal Campus), Arid Agriculture University (Sahiwal Campus), Quaid-i-Azam Engineering College and Sahiwal Medical College participated in the workshop. CIIT director Dr Saleem Farooq Shaukat and PSF Chairman Dr Muhammad Ashraf distributed certificates among the participants.
