LAHORE: Punjab Whites defeated United Women Hockey Academy 2-0 to emerge top team in the fifth Chief Minister Punjab Women Gold Cup hockey tournament at the National Hockey Stadium here on Monday.

With this victory, Punjab Whites raised their points tally to 15, pushing the United Women Hockey Academy team to second spot with 12 points from five matches.

Prior to this clash, both the teams had not conceded any goal in the tournament.

On Monday, Punjab Whites proved themselves as a strong team as they earned a well-deserved win. International Ishrat Abbas converted a penalty corner in the 36th minute to give Punjab Whites lead. And after a minute Areeba Sarwar made it 2-0 in a field attempt to seal the fate of the match.

Meanwhile, Sindh recorded their first victory in the event when they blanked Balochistan 2-0 with Kiran and Maria sharing the scoring honours.

In the day’s last match, a brace from Mahjabeen helped Islamabad to carve out a 4-1 victory against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Saira Cheema and Muneeba contributed a goal each for the winners.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s solitary goal came through Haseena.
