SIALKOT: A large number of people on Sunday staged a demonstration in Pasrur against the alleged slackness of the Municipal Committee (MC) in solving civic problems.

The demonstrators, including women and children, were carrying banners and placards during the light rainy and cloudy weather.

They also kept traffic blocked by burning tyres on several roads for about two hours.

The protesters said that there were no cleanliness and sanitation arrangements in almost all congested residential and commercial areas of Pasrur city.

Due to the alleged failure of the MC, the sewerage system was choked for a long time, inundating many residential areas with sewage.

They said that their misery had not let up for several months due to which they were forced to take to the streets.

They told the media that the congested Rehmanpura, Bahadurpura, Tajpura, Hanifpura, Muslim Colony, Taimur Colony, Inayatpura, Umeedpura, Shah Malook Road, Kutchery Road, Kalaaswala Road, Civil Hospital Road and Godown Road were inundated with sewage and the tehsil municipal administration concerned had turned a blind eye to the situation.

When contacted, MC officials concerned said that the sewerage system of entire Pasrur city was choked.

They said that they had ordered for it to be fixed as early as possible and the MC’s sanitary workers were busy fixing it.
