Ever wondered why more moms are now active on social media?

Today's busy routine has made it difficult for families to spend time together — can this Mother's Day be different?

We all love our moms dearly — but how often do we tell them that?

Let's face it, we are all too busy in our work and meetups that a lot of times it takes a toll on the people we cherish the most.

The latest commercial by Wall's is highlighting the same issue, with reference to the bond between a mother and her teenage children.

The all-too-familiar scenario shows a mother repeatedly trying to connect with her kids and failing, thanks to their busy schedules. We see the mother craving the attention of her two kids, who despite being in the same room with her, aren't actually present there.

So, in an attempt to get closer to her kids, the mom tries to connect with them via social media. We have all seen that sweet side of our mother — commenting on our photos, sharing pictures, and even learning how to send messages through apps; all of that to fit into the lives of her kids and the world they live in, and to be able to spend time with them.

With Mother's Day becoming more and more of a desi phenomenon, there are plenty of choices and deals available out there to pamper your mom and make her day. From gift baskets to special meals, brands are going out of the way in offering a variety of options to people looking for something to make their moms feel special.

But is that enough?

We all know but we tend to forget that actually everything we know today is because of our mom. It was she who taught us how to talk and walk, it was our mom who took us for our first day at school, and the first person who told us how to make friends. Even today, subconsciously, the first name that comes to your lips when you are nervous, afraid or in pain, is your mother's. So why is it that she needs to post that photo of you on Facebook to get your attention? And instead of reading a Mother's Day status update on social media, why can't your mom hear how much you love her, from you in person?

Teach your mother how to be active on social media, but don't make it the only medium for her to connect with you. The joy of love is in being together and living every moment to the fullest. This is perhaps the best gift you can get her this Mother's Day.

Bottom line? Ditch those smartphones and have a real, one-on-one conversation with mom. Spend time with her, listen to what she has to say, and share your stories with her. Mothers becoming more active on social media and getting acquainted with technology shows they are trying to understand and become a part of their kids' life. Can the younger generation do the same? After all, this is the least she deserves from you not just on Mother's Day, but also on the remaining 364 days of the year.
