LAHORE, Aug 1: All the government and autonomous colleges in the city, except the Government College University, have implemented the Punjab education department’s decision to enhance seats by 10 per cent.

The Lahore College for Women University is among the colleges, which have implemented the decisions to enhance 10 per cent seats and launch second shift for intermediate classes.

When contacted, GCU’s spokesman said the decision was not binding on the university, and it would implement any such decision after formal approval by its syndicate.

Meanwhile, parents of the aggrieved students have formed a Parents’ Action Committee and held a meeting with the Punjab education minister for redress of grievances.

In the latest letter sent to the minister, the PAC complained that the GCU, an autonomous body working under the control of the Punjab government, had neither increased 10 per cent seats of its existing 1,000 capacity nor was it willing to start evening shift for the first year students.

PAC convener Prof Tanzeem H Naqvi and coordinator Khalid Omar Chaudhry claimed that the GC had filled only 60 per cent seats on open merit and 40 per cent seats on quota/reserved basis.
