PESHAWAR, Aug 1: The All Class-IV Government Employees Association has threatened that workers will commit self-immolation at a public meeting on Aug 28 if the government failed to accept their demands immediately.
Speaking at a protest meeting at the works and services department here on Friday, APFCA general secretary Abdus Sattar Hoti regretted that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government was not paying any heed to the workers’ demands and employing delaying tactics, though one week had passed since they launched their protest.
He threatened that the government employees would commit self-immolation en masse at a public meeting on Aug 28, if the government did not change what he called its stubborn stance.
Mr Hoti urged the government to adjust the surplus employees in other departments and ensure the payment of salaries to them on time in their respective districts. He said instead of creating jobs, the government was terminating the services of employees in the name of downsizing.
The members of the action committee, Sarfaraz Khan, Naeemullah, Hia Gul, Qasim Jan and others also attended the protest meeting.
Earlier, the workers hanged black banners atop buildings and pasted posters on the gates at the secretariat.
