JACOBABAD, Aug 1: Some 36,994 people were affected, 5,231 houses damaged and crops standing over 90,112 acres of land inundated due to rains and canal breaches in Jacobabad district.
This was told at a meeting held here on Thursday to access the losses caused by rains in the district.
The meeting was attended by Jacobabad Taluka Nazim, the officers of the irrigation department, the EDO, revenue, Mukhtiarkars of the five talukas of the district and others.
The officers concerned presented reports of the losses according to which 4,025 people of 16 villages were affected, crops standing over 2,620 acres of land were destroyed and 69 houses were damaged in Jacobabad taluka.
In Garhi Khero taluka, 434 people, crops standing over 1,046 acres of land and 315 houses were affected.
Thul was the worst affected area by canal breaches, where 31,977 residents of 100 villages and crop standing over 70,446 acres of land were affected and 4744 houses damaged.
The losses were also reported from Kandhkot taluka.
The Jacobabad district government has demanded that the Sindh government should provide funds to compensate the affected people.
