KARACHI: The Jamaat-i-Islami on Tuesday launched a ‘one million petition’ drive as part of its campaign against load-shedding and alleged overbilling by K-Electric.

“The drive is aimed at providing people affected by K-Electric a platform for a legal battle,” said JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman while addressing a press conference at the JI camp outside the K-Electric head office.

“The Jamaat-i-Islami will approach the Supreme Court after compiling issues of one million people from across the city. We will continue the campaign against the company and let me make it clear that the sit-in against KE and the government will be held outside Governor House as per schedule on April 29.”

He said that the party would hold a peaceful sit-in, but if the protest was interrupted, the JI would hold the government responsible.
