Nawazuddin Siddiqui says that he is an artist above everything else

The actor expressed through a series of placards that artists should not be labelled based on their religion
Updated 24 Apr, 2017

It's time for artists to be allowed to work based on their art, not religion, expresses Nawazuddin Siddiqui's new video.

The short clip starts by showing the actor holding a placard which reads, "I got my DNA test done and when the report came in, I found out that I am..."

After which Nawazuddin is seen changing into getups of different religions, calling himself "16.66% Hindu", "16.66% Muslim" and "16.66% of all the other religions in the world", including Christianity and Buddhism.

The video tastefully ends with the Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor holding up placards which read, "When I discovered my soul, I found that I am... a 100% artist."

Last year, Nawazuddin was forced to quit a play during a Hindu festival in his hometown due to his religion. The actor, through this video, voices his concern that above all, he is an artist.

The video also throws shade at India's ban on Pakistani artists last year.

India is proud of this extraordinary actor and we condemn stupid acts of him being stopped while carrying out his dharma as an actor.

Damn, you have to prove yourself every time. Even religion is your personal matter but they consider you a second citizen because you are non-Hindu. It's a shame that you are telling people that you are only 16.66% Muslim. What if you are 100% Muslim.

This Gentle man is in complete deception. As name speaks he should be 100% Muslim and should be content with it. He cannot please every one by twisting and deceiving things about his identity.

@TAriq Many urban Indians visit different places of worship and all celebrate festivals. We take in the best from different religions or are irreligious. What's so scandalous.

In India if you call yourself 100% Hindu or 100% Muslim or anything such kind then you can still be an Indian, only thing is that your opinion will not have much value. This is the reason, Kashmiri separatists are not heard.

@Shahid Mahmood Ireland Nawazuddin is first-class Indian actors and other actors (including Khans in bollywood) belong to 2nd-class of actors.
