MULTAN: A Nishtar Hospital doctor was shot dead allegedly by his family guard on Sunday.

According to initial police investigation, guard Rafiq Khan was employed by Dr Waseem Javed’s family some 20 years ago.

Police said Dr Javed, deputy medical superintendent of labour room and former emergency director, Nishtar Hospital, was looking after renovation work of his brother’s residence at Chungi No 2. His brother Dr Naeem is presently in the US.During inspection of work on Sunday, an exchange of harsh words took place between Dr Javed and accused Rafiq who was staying there. The accused opened fire, killing the doctor on the spot. Two other people, Ikhlaq and Pervaiz, who were present there and were trying to settle the matter, sustained injuries. They were shifted to Nishtar Hospital. The accused fled the scene.
