The Foreign Office (FO) on Thursday said Indian forces in India-held Kashmir launched an operation against educational institutions in the disputed valley and have launched an “all out war on Kashmiri students”.

“They have attacked women education institutions as well. A dozen colleges have been attacked, injuring thousands of students - both boys and girls,” said the FO in its weekly briefing.

“Last week, Indian Home Minister claimed that Indian government will control the situation within a year and showed his determination to do with whatever it takes,” added the FO.

Nafees Zakaria, spokesperson at the FO, said harrowing stories from Indian-held Kashmir continue to raise concerns in Pakistan.

“Use of brute force against innocent Kashmiris, who refused to participate in the sham elections, cannot suppress their human urge of freedom.”

The FO further said that India has openly violated human rights in Kashmir and has displayed a complete disregard for the UN Charter, adding that recently leaked videos openly showing use of human shields and beatings by the “occupation forces, is a manifestation”.

Zakaria also mentioned the banning of social media in the held valley, and said the steps were taken by the Indian government to ensure that “reports of crimes against humanity committed by Indian occupation forces do not go out of IOK”.

Students hold protest in Azad Jammu and Kashmir

The capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) resounded with anti-India slogans on Thursday, as hundreds of schoolchildren staged a demonstration to express solidarity with their contemporaries in India-held Kashmir.

Though majority of participants was drawn from the educational institutions in the camps of Kashmiri refugees but some state-run schools had also sent their students to take part in the demonstration.

“We condemn torture of Kashmiri students by Indian troops,” read one of the banners carried by the students.

Several placards reminded the United Nations of its seemingly forgotten obligations with regard to the longest pending item on its agenda – the Kashmir dispute.

“Go India, go back”, “We want freedom” chanted the participants.

They also vented anger at Indian premier Narendra Modi and home minister Rajnath Singh.

“Down with killer Modi, down with Rajnath,” they shouted.

In the latest surge of violence in India-held Kashmir, at least eight people were killed and more than two dozen injured on April 9, when police clashed with protesters during a by-election in Srinagar in India-held Kashmir.

Suspected separatist factions in Kashmir had called for a boycott of the vote, resulting in heightened security and low voter turnout when the polling began.

“Use of brute force against innocent Kashmiris, who refused to participate in the sham elections, cannot suppress their human urge of freedom.”

Sheeda Apr 20, 2017 08:36pm

Free Kashmir!

Akhil Apr 20, 2017 08:49pm

Army is not attacking first; why people are throwing stones. Everything can be discussed over table. Why that option is not considered and a violent option of stone throwing is taken up.

JIGAr Apr 20, 2017 08:50pm

Kashmir is part of India.

Nomi Goraya Apr 20, 2017 08:57pm

@Akhil Why to this point nothing is discussed on TABLE? All are crying to talk to negotiate and settle Kashmir issue except dear India who is not even ready to accept that it is an issue at first place. One thing is sure that Kashmiries will get what they want one way or the other sooner India realize it better it for India and the region

DIL Apr 20, 2017 09:00pm

@SODAWATERBOTTLEOPENERWALA you are suffocating them through your continues occupation , Killing innocent , raping women, thousands missing and do not abide by the international laws to resolve the issue and after all you still expect a peaceful demonstration . keep on living in dream world .

SSS Apr 20, 2017 09:02pm

@JIGAr : Then why do this to your own students??? Kashmir is not and never will be part of India!!!

saudagar Apr 20, 2017 09:02pm

@Akhil There is more than what meets the eye ! no one instinctively revolts and throws stones for sake of agitations ! kashmiris are too mild and well behaved and i strongly believe there is need to hear them in fact listen to them !lets expect our able leaders to act more than now !the present news are not so warming bro!

mam Apr 20, 2017 09:11pm

Aweome news... Now India will deal with iron hands with all form of terrorism.

DW Apr 20, 2017 09:16pm

Embarrassing how Indians are trying to convince Kashmiris they are Indians. No they are not....... just like Pakistanis are NOT Indians. Get over it!

Syed h Apr 20, 2017 09:18pm

Kashmir has the highest ratio of security personnel to civilians in the world, operating under laws that give impunity to kill, torture, rape, disappear, brutalise, and humiliate the local population. Their outrageous atrocities have been extensively documented for decades now by numerous human rights groups.

Pakistanis and Kashmiri Muslims should realise if they have not already that reports of Indian barbarity in Kashmir makes large sections of India's population giddy with delight. That is the key difference here between Pakistan and India: we feel Kashmiris pain as if it were our own (which it is), and so many Indians revel in giving it.

What this means is that if we want to help, we should be prepared to do so by all means possible, and not just by polite denunciations. Remember, we are up against an India that enthusiastically seeks every opportunity to harm us including sending its own people. If we are not willing to do this, then all our words of support are meaningless.

Nimra Apr 20, 2017 09:28pm

If India was sincere in the their efforts to resolve the Kashmir dispute, they would not have rejected the numerous proposals initiated by Nawas Sharif for peace talks, including a plan to demilitarize both Azad Kashmir and Jammu and Kashmir.

If India wants to win the approval of the Kashmiris, this type of violence is not the way to do it. One of the rudimentary principles of republic country (being Republic of India) is consent of the governed. If this fundamental principle is not maintained, violence and unrest will continue in Kashmir, regardless.

Farhan Apr 20, 2017 09:33pm

@DW Stone throwing is also not convincing.

salar Apr 20, 2017 09:37pm

May these oppressors see the day of light and revolt against an unjust army and country to support their fellow brothers in Kashmir!

manish Apr 20, 2017 09:42pm

Who stopped the children to attend the school ,who burned the schools during the long curfew period after burhaan Wani death, they were the separatist who did that.

M. Emad Apr 20, 2017 09:48pm

Are they real 'students' ?

VJ Apr 20, 2017 09:55pm

Great ..analysis !!

DIL Apr 20, 2017 09:56pm

@M. Emad even if they aren't this isn't the way you treat civilians.

Namo Apr 20, 2017 09:59pm

@DW is it not embarrassing that your country tries to internatiolise the issue and you constantly get rejected.

Namo Apr 20, 2017 10:00pm

Shameless are those who constantly push an agenda that is none of their business.

oricle Apr 20, 2017 10:15pm

@Sheeda and you will eat you know what.

mittha khan Apr 20, 2017 10:30pm

@JIGAr That is arguable but one thing is a consistent constant fact since 47.....KASHMIRIS are part of Pakistan..peoples aspirations matter not some piece of land..a basic simple thing u cant seem to understand our dear neighbors..

Observer Apr 20, 2017 10:43pm

Yes, they have. What next? Another dossier ?

Sandy Apr 20, 2017 10:51pm

Aimless protests Nothing will come out of this. Earlier they get it the better for them. Time to return to their classes.

Observer Apr 20, 2017 10:52pm

@Namo Absolutely. They think as if world waits for them to know what is right and what is wrong. Dies India even listen, forget the world, and respond ?

Sagar Apr 20, 2017 11:14pm

@Faisal - "Kashmiris will never accept anything less than Freedom"

Great. Lead the way with your side of Kashmir.

theinvincible Apr 20, 2017 11:27pm

@AZHAR HUSSAIN life of people is more important than a piece of land!!!

missireallymiss Apr 21, 2017 12:26am

@mam and theyll get it right back...nothing changes on one side, but the other it will.

IMTIAZ ALI KHAN Apr 21, 2017 12:45am

@saudagar My Indian brother Kashmiris are beautifuls no doubt, good looks, kind heart and hard worker fierce people. Hindu/Muslim/Sikhs lived in these sacred valleys for generation, you said it rightly there is more the story on the picture than just stone pelting.

O Lord India and Pakistan needs to be together like our past, we are same people, open these borders so my family can come see me and I can see my Indian family. When will most public realize that human life is sacred more than any faith we follow.

Long Live India my most beautiful Land of Mahavira and Pakistan Land of Gurus and Saints where in Sindhu Dharti the heart of India started to beat first. I bet no one can deny our shared history of 5000 years. We are brothers OK get that haters on both sides needs to know we can't call each other enemies forever because we are not!!!!

Samir lone Apr 21, 2017 01:52am

Clear signs that the occupation forces are failing and India will sooner than later be forced beyond its will towards undignified exit! Tyranny and genocide will come back to haunt them.

Samir lone Apr 21, 2017 01:54am

@JIGAr Kashmir never was and never will be Indian. I say it as a Kashmiri myself!

Komal s Apr 21, 2017 01:59am

When temperature gets hot at home raise Kashmir issue.

Zak Apr 21, 2017 02:23am

@SODAWATERBOTTLEOPENERWALA soldiers who should be in their own country are in a foreign land murdering, maiming, blinding, raping. They should all go home as per UN resolutions.

george Apr 21, 2017 02:47am

It is painful to see Kashmiris suffering. If India and Pakistan are really democratic and sincere enough, must give Kashmir freedom.

dentedmemories Apr 21, 2017 03:04am

@Azhar Hussain keep dreaming

HP Apr 21, 2017 03:31am

India just wants peace. Indians wants peace with Pakistan. As an average Indian I am not much concerned about Kashmir. Politicians and media wants to highlight small things so they can be in power. Indian forces target only troublemaker. If someone is taking a law in hand army has to deal with them with force.

kaliraja thangamani Apr 21, 2017 03:33am

@IMTIAZ ALI KHAN Good thoughts, thanks.

SACHin Apr 21, 2017 04:03am

In Kashmir, India allow such news to be published and there is relatively free speech and rights. In other parts of Islamic world and in China, any separatist protests are crushed brutally and no one in media or outside world even knows about it. However India should not compare with other non-democratic or rogue or military court ruled countries. We should address issues of Kashmiris and grant them full autonomy under Indian constitution. Full autonomy also means they will have to come up with their own industry and own tax revenues and cannot rely on Central govt for providing endless supply of funds.

Krishnan Apr 21, 2017 04:10am

@mittha khan If according to you people matter and not land then why don't you take all of them? We are ready to bear the burden of one way free ticket to all those willing to cross over.

Mona Apr 21, 2017 04:21am

@DW there are more myslims in democratic India than in Pakistan. Are they Indian or Pakistanis?

Sonny Afridi Apr 21, 2017 07:01am

@IMTIAZ ALI KHAN We are NOT brothers with the Indians. Stop fooling yourself with this naivety.

dipak BOSE Apr 21, 2017 08:11am

@Azhar Hussain 100,000 is nothing compare with 150 million Muslims still in India.

harry Apr 21, 2017 08:28am

Its Unfortunate to use force on Kashmiri people but reality is Strategic location of Kashmir is such that it acts as a natural defence to India against any foreign (specifically China) aggression. China can cross India's natural defence Himalaya only through Kashmir or Arunachal(Now CPEC root available as well though). Hence control on both States is necessary for the very survival of India. So its very much clear that India will never never compromise on either Kashmir or Arunachal. Now its upto Kashmiri people to accept the reality and make there life better than now.

Chetan Chandra Apr 21, 2017 08:30am

@salar The same for Pakistan

ABX Apr 21, 2017 08:59am

there is no evidence of what the FO is stating .....

MUHAMMAD FAHEEM KHAN Apr 21, 2017 09:10am

@Akhil Why 1 million millitary/police force is there?

S kumar Apr 21, 2017 09:13am

School is the temple of education, burning school is the severe punishment and torture to students who want to study. And we all know, who burnt the valley schools

yoo Apr 21, 2017 09:56am

there ain't any kashmiris in azad kashmir .

Faisal Apr 21, 2017 09:59am

@Sagar Come out of denial and face the reality, all the protests and freedom movement is in Indian Occupied Kashmir as its illegally occupied by Indian forces and Kashmir do not accept them.

Yogi baba Apr 21, 2017 05:36pm

@Zak . I pity your knowledge.

IMTIAZ ALI KHAN Apr 21, 2017 07:50pm

@Yogi baba After continuous barrage of negative comments against Pakistan you have created my brother named Zak. You must understand hate only create more hate my Indian brother.

@Sonny Afridi Yes Indians are my brother, I will not let them go from my heart and that also goes to Pakistanis, we must include love in our heart for us to move on and be rational in our thoughts when ever anyone gets hurts we must condemn them be it Bombay or Karachi etc., . Be well yaar.

No Hindu No Muslim, No Mandir and No Masjid Fakir Baba said rightly I love you Baba Om Sai always Inshallah! Sab ka Malik Aik.

suresh nayak Apr 22, 2017 04:53am
