GWADAR: A motorcycle bomb exploded on Airport Road in the emerging port city of Gwadar on Wednesday, leaving three people injured.

Official sources said that the motorcycle rigged with an improvised explosive device (IED) was parked in front of Razzaq Market, an area mostly housing real estate agents’ offices.

The IED was detonated by remote control, resulting in injuries to three people who were taken to the Gwadar district hospital by the personnel of law enforcement agencies.

“Two of the injured deal in real estate in Gwadar. They were sitting in their office when the blast occurred,” district police chief Barkat Khosa said, adding that the third victim was a passer-by.

They were identified as Samiullah and Jamil Ahmed, who belong to Lahore and Hyderabad, respectively. The passer-by was identified as Zakir Hussain, a resident of Gwadar.

“All three men are out of danger,” said Dr Abdul Latif, the medical superintendent of the district hospital.

A number of shops and vehicles were damaged while windowpanes of nearby buildings were smashed by the impact of the blast.

Police started an investigation into the blast and a search operation was launched by security forces to trace the culprits involved.
