ISLAMABAD, July 29: National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has introduced two separate verification systems to detect fake travel documents and illegal transactions.

This was informed at a seminar organized by Nadra here at a local hotel. The two systems are known as Verification Identity System (Verisys) and Biometric Identification System (Biosys).

Nadra chairman Brig Saleem Ahmed Moeen informed the participants that the authority had developed a new online identity verification service called Verisys for the agencies which could establish their customers’ identities through web as well as dial up system.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Minister for Petroleum and natural Resources Chaudhry Nauraiz Shakoor and State Bank of Pakistan governor Dr Ishrat Hussain.

Nadra chairman said Verisys enabled the organizations in a comfortable way to register and to verify their customers on the spot using web-based applications. “The information provided by Verisys includes front image of the Computerized National Identity Card, back image of CNIC, mother’s maiden name, father’s place of birth, and wife’s name,” he added.

The second system, he said, was Biometric Identification System (Biosys) which could be used for any transaction where identification of a person is required before handing over the cash.

“The Biosys is measurable, robust, distinctive, physical characteristic of an individual that can be used to verify his/her identity,” he said.

Nadra chairman said the use of specific characterises of human body as an access code would make the system reliable and secure.

He said the encryption of this system would allow the users to move around freely with the access key without any fear of being lost or stolen.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shakoor said, by introducing verification systems, Nadra had taken a leap forward towards good governance.

The minister said the Nadra’s verification systems Verisys/Biosys would help eliminate travelling on fake documents which had embarrassed Pakistan in several foreign countries.

He urged police to benefit from the verification systems being offered by Nadra to establish a crime-free society. The SBP governor appreciated the advancement in information technology and systems developed by Nadra.
