LAHORE: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) awarded on Tuesday the contract of consultancy services worth Rs868 million through an international competitive bidding for a second Rehabilitation of Warsak Hydroelectric Power Station to a Joint Venture comprising four firms led by Dolsar from Turkey.
The main objective of the Rehabilitation Project for the 57 year old Power Station, located on river Kabul about 30kms northwest of Peshawar, is to tackle problems aggravated by ageing equipment and to rehabilitate the power plant, as a result increasing its service life and prolonging its ability to provide much needed power to the National Grid.
Wapda is executing the Power Station project to regain its generation capacity, which has decreased to 193MW from 243MW due to worn-out electro-mechanical equipment.
Rehabilitation is planned to be carried out with an approved PC-I cost of Rs22.25bn with the objective to overcome deteriorating problems, regain the capacity loss of 50MW with reliable annual energy generation of 1.14bn units, upgrade and modernise the old system and achieve another life cycle of 30 to 40 years.
