ISLAMABAD: The spouse of Nawab Ali Leghari, the ‘missing’ aide of former president and Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, has moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for the recovery of her husband.

IHC Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani on Monday issued notices to the interior secretary, inspector general of Islamabad police and the station house officer of the Lohi Bher police station and sought their reply by April 24.

According to the petition, Mr Leghari was picked up by plain-clothes people on April 4 from his residence in Swan Garden in Islamabad.

His wife, Ms Badran, adopted in the petition that her husband was a political figure and was an adviser to the Sindh chief minister.

The petition said that Mr Leghari and his cousin were at his house on the said day when some people knocked at the door and identified themselves as government officials.

After Mr Leghari and his cousin showed their computerised national identity cards to the unknown people, they bundled Mr Leghari into their vehicle and drove away.

It said that the petitioner went to the Lohi Bher police station, but the SHO initially refused to register an FIR of the incident. However, he later half heartedly registered the FIR after the matter was highlighted in the media.

The petition stated that Mr Leghari was still missing and his whereabouts were unknown to his family.

Ms Badran alleged that her husband might be in the illegal confinement of the interior secretary.

The court sought reply from the above-mentioned officials and adjourned the hearing of the case till April 24.
