LAHORE: One of the two missing doctors on Tuesday returned home 19 days after they were believed to be picked up by the law-enforcement agencies for their alleged links with a banned organisation.

Dr Hafiz Muhammad Adnan of Rahim Yar Khan and Dr Muhammad Javed of Muzaffargarh had gone missing from the King Edward Medical College (KEMC) hostel on March 14.

Both the doctors were doing house job at paeds ward’s unit-1 of the Mayo Hospital and went to the hostel after duty.

The Mayo Hospital administration came to know about the incident after their absence from the ward. The hospital management contacted their families who were also ignorant about the incident.

The families of the doctors later approached the Gawalmandi police station and a kidnap case was registered against unidentified persons.

Adnan’s elder brother Jam Rizwan told Dawn on Tuesday that his brother came back home after 19 days.

He said his brother did not have any connection with any banned organisation while adding Adnan was in good health and he left for Lahore to join his job.

He said the hospital administration had terminated the house job contract of his brother and “we have filed an application to get it back.”

City Division SP (investigation) Syed Karrar Husain told Dawn that the doctor in his statement claimed that he remained in Murree, lost his mobile phone and failed to contact his hospital administration and the family. He said they were investigating the missing report case of the other doctor.A police officer on condition of anonymity said the doctors were interrogated by the law-enforcement agencies for their [alleged] connections with the banned outfits.

He said the law enforcers did not find any direct link of Hafiz Adnan with the banned outfits and released him. He said some of the belongings of the doctor were handed over to him later.

KEMC Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Asad Aslam said Dr Hafiz Muhammad Adnan who went missing came back to the hostel.

“He has submitted an application to resume his job and we are looking into it,” Aslam said.

However, Dr Javed’s brother Khursheed said his family was waiting for government action to recover his brother.

He said they did not receive any call and police were also not cooperating for the recovery.
