CM’s one dish

Published March 30, 2017

LAST year the Sindh chief minister issued an order effective Nov 1, curtailing the menu at marriage functions to one dish, meaning one meat, one rice and one sweet dish. The time for winding up the function was also limited to 10pm.

After a few days the effective date of the order was extended to Feb 1, 2017, on the intervention of the marriage hall owners and caterers.

Although the extended date is over, the order has not been implemented. Prices of food items, especially of chicken, are rising sharply because of lavish wedding menus these days.

The one-dish rule in Punjab has been successfully implemented for the last over 10 years. Why does Sindh find it so difficult to implement it?

The Sindh government should announce a new date with the beginning of the holy month of Ramazan.
