KARACHI: Pakistan Television (PTV) became the third department to seal place in the Patron’s Trophy Grade-II Tournament semi-finals after cruising to a nine-wicket victory over Income Tax in Faisalabad on Wednesday.

Following on the heels of State Bank and ZTBL, who topped groups ‘A’ and ‘B’ even before the start of the fifth and final round matches, PTV won in two days at the Bohranwali Ground to finish on top of Group ‘C’ with 35 points.

PTV’s nearest rivals Port Qasim Authority (PQA) earned a lead of 100 by reaching 492-8 in the allotted 83 overs against the Higher Education Commission (HEC) at the Sports Stadium in Sargodha with skipper and discarded Pakistan opener Khurram Manzoor scoring 126.

Bating a second time, HEC collected 29-1 at stumps.

Omar Associates’ hopes of earning at least nine points were thwarted when Brighto Paints amassed 438 to lead by 125 runs in the Group ‘D’ fixture at the LCCA Ground in Lahore with captain Akbar Badshah leading the way by contributing 112.

By close of play, Omar Associates made 20-0 in their second innings.

Group ‘D’ leaders Railways, who have 25 points at present, conceded lead on the first innings when they mustered 154 in reply to 189 totalled by Ghani Glass at the Railways Cricket Stadium.

Ghani Glass, however, faltered in their second innings as they slipped to 128-9 to hold an overall lead of 163. A victory for either team will be enough to take the remaining last-four spot on Wednesday’s last day of action, but if Railways draw then they would go through.

Close of play scores and results on Wednesday (day two of three):
