KARACHI: A suspected bandit was killed in a shoot-out with police in Shah Latif Town in the early hours of Tuesday, officials said.

They added that the suspect, whose identity could not be ascertained, was gunned down while his accomplice managed to escape during the exchange of fire in Sector 16-A.

The police recovered a pistol and a motorbike from his custody.

An official at the Shah Latif Town police station said area residents informed a police patrol that some armed bandits were snatching cash and valuables from passers-by in Sector 16-A of Shah Latif Town. “Our police mobile rushed to the place and spotted two armed bandits near Matkay Wali Pulya. They fired shots at the police and then sped away on their motorbike. We chased them and finally trapped them in one of the narrow lanes. But they kept firing at us as our police mobile van could not move into the narrow lanes. After a brief exchange of gunfire, one of the suspects was killed. We have recovered a pistol and a motorbike from his possession. His accomplice, however, managed to escape,” said an official.
