KARACHI: Police on Mon­day claimed to have arrested a close relative of slain Lyari kingpin Rehman Dakait and seized 31 different types of arms and ammunition in the Baldia area acting upon information gleaned from the suspect, said City SSP Adeel Hussain Chandio.

Speaking at a press conference at his office, the senior officer said that acting on a tip-off, Mochko SHO Babar Hameed arrested Sharif Rahim, nephew of Rehman Dakait and son of Rahim, alias Kana, from Raees Goth, Baldia.

On information provided by the held suspect, the police party recovered different types of grenades, arms and ammunition.

The officer pointed out that the seized grenades including 10 hand grenades, eight stun grenades, 10 rifle grenades, three smoke grenades, three Kalashnikovs, one 222 rifle, two 9mm rifles and nine 9mm pistols.

The SSP City claimed that under the prevailing situation, these grenades could have been used to carry out acts of terrorism in Lyari or other areas.
