LAHORE: The Punjab University and Jiangxi University of Science and Technology, Ghanzhou, China, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly work on research projects.

According to the MoU, the research will be conducted in engineering, environment and economics.

According to the PU, a 32-member varsity delegation, headed by PU Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation director Prof Dr Tahir Jamil, is visiting the Jiangsu University.

Earlier, PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir was to visit the Chinese varsity but because of current security situation in the varsity he preferred to stay here.

Dr Nasir said the collaboration with international universities would improve PU ranking and promote quality research here. The delegation will return on March 29.

CEREMONEY: The closing ceremony of the 5th International Conference on “Education in Pakistan: Building Bridge between Mathematics, Science and Technology and Education” was held at University of Education here on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Higher Education Commission Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin said the Punjab government was spending a huge budget for the betterment of education sector, sustainable development and for implementing new reforms to meet professional standards because education and research was a real base of developed nations.

He said the prime minister had asked the chief ministers of all provinces to make plans for producing of mathematics and science teachers as public sector schools were producing unacceptably low levels of learning outcomes in mathematics and science.

Government College University VC Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah said science was playing an important role in polishing the creativity and thinking skills.

He said the purpose of research work of national and international scholars was to serve and improve the field of education.
