Deepika's not leaving Bollywood for Hollywood, says she's 'aware of her roots'

"I am very well aware of my home and my roots, so that’s never going to change," said the actor.
25 Mar, 2017

Deepika Padukone's successful Hollywood debut with xXx: Return of Xander Cage was enough for speculations to arise that the Bollywood beauty might just be heading off to Hollywood, permanently.

But how much truth is there to these rumours?

At the India Business Leader Awards in New Delhi on Thursday, Deepika refuted all such claims.

"I am very well aware of my home and my roots, so that’s never going to change," said the actor as she was honoured with Entertainment Leader of the Year Award at the event. "I look at it (working in Hollywood) as an extension of my creativity and the ability to work in a different environment with different people."

Speaking on her experience of working in Hollywood she said, "I think that people in the film industry come together to tell amazing stories to touch and influence lives through the work that we do and that was one such opportunity for me."

Though there aren't any Hollywood films in the pipeline yet for the Bajirao Mastani star, she says that she has "a lot of films coming my way and I’m happy."

Deepika is currently working on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati alongside Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor.

Working in Hollywood is meant to widen portfolio and add professional experience. That's an idiosyncrasy of us indians, we always strive to make our CV better.

You're right. There is no need for Indian/Pakistani artists to prove themselves anywhere else but in the sub-continent.

@zafar Make CV better ? She's already established A lister bollywood star. They take those offers because it's new market and challenging, different culture than your own cultural movies. It's exciting. Example, Disha patani did chinese movie. It wasn't hollywood. But she did it because it breakes away from her daily routine to try and do something different , experience different language and different culture.

@Joe Priyanka already got Hollywood People choice award twice for her series Quantico. Deepika made a succesful debut, with hollywood film critics appreciating her performance. Om puri already got Oscar recognition and eulogy. Anupam Kher , Irfan Khan etc have made their contribution in lead role or pivotal role in major movies that won Oscar or got many awards.

Both Deepika and Priyanka are Very talented Indian Beauties with Brains .... Whilst Priyanka has established her better in Hollywood, Deepika is also part of the Ivy-League of Commercial Cinema Big-Wigs in Hollywood (This Ivy League - commercial - comprises of brands like Mission Impossible, 007 series, Fast and Furious, and XXX series) ... Its not a small role to land in a movies against Vin Diesel ... Congrats Priyanka and Deepika and wish you more Luck.

@Varuna MS She was born up in metropolitan city Bangalore. Where mixed ethicity culture is followed -hindi and english not Kannada . She later moved to mumbai for job and became Mumbaikar. She never forgot her roots because her roots are "Indian" not any region. Just like her badminton champ father who played for India.

@enigma Don't think any of your kin i.e. cosmetic rearranged beauty holds a candle to this gorgeous natural woman. She features in top 30 world's most beautiful woman list for a reason. Your kin is yet to make a entry on that list. This beauty has got offers of fast and furious , xander cage etc increasing her stardom . When was the last time any of your made such lavish achievements? Nil.

@Amit Pakistani actresses dont need a crown to prove they are beautiful. i have been watching Pakistani movies and drama since the 90's and no doubt Pakistani actors and actresses are far attractive and beautiful. Depika is a good actress and is beautiful but i prefer Mahwish Hayat and Saba Qamar over her.

@Ishaan For your information, the only person keen on Depika was Van Diesel. He is associated with Fast and the furious and XXX movies. But Van Diesel is not a huge commercial success. He only has one movie ie Fast and the Furious to his credit which has number of actors in it. Apart from that he has nothing more. XXX is not a successful production. And i am sorry to say i have seen Depikas movie XXX she didn't impress at all. When it comes to Pakistani actors Van Dam offered Reema in his film but she refused, Oliver Stone offered Anita Ayub in Natural Born Killers she turned it down. Late Shafi Muhammad Sha a well know Pakistani TV actor was offered East is East but he refused than it was offered to Talat Hussain he refused as well so in the end Late Om Puri got the part. Pakistani actors and actresses are noticed in the world.

Hollywood is using indian females as "filler" in the movies to get the indian public into the theatres, same is with Chinese actors, but the likes of Irfan Khan, now he will do good !!!
