LAHORE: As the Punjab University Academic Staff Association has condemned the clash between two student groups while the university’s Teachers Front has announced a shadow academic staff association, alleging that the PUASA is oblivious to the serious nature of violence at the university.
The clash between Islami Jamiat Tulaba (IJT) and Pakhtun Students on the latter’s culture show on Tuesday had left 10 students injured. Police arrested 22 students, mostly belonging to the IJT, and registered a case against 200 unidentified students.
The PUASA has asked the university administration to expose internal and external elements involved in this incident and punishment for those responsible elements to avoid such incidents in the future.
“Nobody should be allowed to spoil the peaceful environment of the university. The association is also supporting the positive steps taken by Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir and university administration to improve the situation in the university,” it said.
On the other hand, PU Teachers Front President Sajid Rasheed and Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain said the incumbent PUASA was completely ignorant and unaware of the seriousness of the recent wave of violence at the university.
