KARACHI: Long distance athletes, Haroon Gill and Maria, won the top honours in 10 kilometres boys and girls categories respectively of the Run for Karachi -23 road race held at the Sea View, Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Thursday.

Running alongside boys, Fizza surprised all and sundry by winning the five five km race in style. She got the better of Sami and Abdul Aleem for the honours.

Mekail emerged victorious in the boys one km and followed by Ramiz and Ali while Anees Khan annexed the title in special children category.

The road race was organised by the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) in collaboration with leading higher educational institutions of the city.

A large number of people from all walks of life and age groups participated in the race. The special feature of the race was participation of 30 kids in the special category.

The secretary of the AFP Mohammad Zafar, who had specially come from Lahore the other day, graced the occasion and gave away cash prizes, medals and certificates to the winners.

Results:

10km (boys): 1-Haroon Gill, 2-Azeem Khan, 3-Nadeem

10km (girls): 1-Maria, 2-Nadia, 3-Ayesha

5km: 1-Fizza, 2-Sami, 3-Abdul Aleem

1km junior:1-Mekail, 2-Ramiz, 3-Ali

Special children: 1-Anees Khan, 2-Awais Khan, 3-Ahmed Noor.
