KARACHI: Jubilation with a touch of austerity — due to power shortage — mark the Pakistan Day celebrations tomorrow.

The National Flag will be hoisted on all public and private buildings and thanks-giving prayers held in all mosques throughout Pakistan.

Booming of a 31-gun salute will herald the Pakistan Day in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

President Ayub Khan will take salute at a joint services parade at Rawalpindi Race Course ground at 9 a.m.

Twelve F-5 freedom aircraft of the Iranian Air Force will take part in the flypast for the first time.

A total of 120 aircraft including MIG-19, F-86 Sabre Jets, B-57 bombers, F-104 Supersonic Star Fighters will give a display of their flying skill.

Radio Pakistan will broadcast in its national hook-up a message from President Ayub.

An investiture ceremony will be held in the afternoon at the President’s House to be followed by a reception by the President.

An investiture ceremony will be held in Lahore by the Governor, Mr Mohammad Musa.

Due to power shortage only Quaid-i-Azam’s Mazar will be illuminated in West Pakistan. The Governor’s House and Civil Secretariat buildings will be lit by candles and “dyas” — oil lamps.

Brisk preparations are being made for the Day in Karachi. All the army units in Malir Cantonment will take part in a parade at 8-30 a.m. at AOC Centre Parade Ground Malir. Brig S.S. Aslam will review the parade.

At 5 in the afternoon 3,000 school children will participate in a march-past and physical display at the Railway Stadium. Commissioner Darbar A.H. Shah will take the salute.

In the morning at 10, the Commissioner will give away 16 sanads for meritorious services at a simple ceremony to be held at his residence.
