PESHAWAR: National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, has arrested an official of the communication and works department, Upper Dir, over alleged involvement in accumulation of illegal assets worth Rs52.7 million.

The suspect, Fazal Hadi, was produced before an accountability court, which remanded him in NAB custody for five days on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued here, the matter was brought into the notice of NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Taking cognisance of it an inquiry was authorised to ascertain the facts and collect requisite evidence regarding moveable and immoveable properties owned, controlled and possessed by the accused person in his name.

During the course of inquiry, it was revealed that the accused belonging to a middle class family of Mingora Swat piled up assets worth millions of rupees in his name, which were disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The assets, he accumulated included a house and a plot measuring 1,500 sqft at Rung Mohallah, Mingora, four houses at Landi Kas, near Khwar Masjid, Mingora, a three-storey building at Rung Mohallah.

Besides, he purchased a house measuring 1,818 sqft at Landi Kas, a five marla plot in zone-1 of Regi Model Town Peshawar, land measuring 6,468 sqft at Mohallah Gunbad Mera, Swat, possessed a plot each at Rahim Abad and Shareef Abad, Mingora, one house each at Shahab Nagar, Mingora and Gul Kada, Saidu Shareef.
