It seems that Donald Trump’s election as president of the United States has made Hollywood’s resolve to be more inclusive in its approach to life all the more steelier. Here’s the latest example.
Walt Disney’s eagerly awaited live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast will, among other things, feature a gay character (LeFou, wingman of the villain in the story Gaston) played by Josh Gad. This has happened for the first time in the history of the company.
The news has so far elicited a response which is neither overly commendatory nor critical, which, I guess, is understandable.
Hollywood, what next?
A gay superhero!
