TOBA TEK SINGH: Some three decades ago, a three-marla housing scheme was introduced adjacent to the Low Income Housing Scheme No 2 near Forest Park by the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency.

It has 1,800 plots but electricity supply and the sewerage system have not been made functional there. Though a dozen of the owners have constructed houses, they have been facing the situation after the passage of even 30 years.

A resident of the scheme, Abdul Ghaffar said the agency had installed electricity poles and 16 transformers in the scheme but transmission wires had been stolen and the covers of transformers lying on the ground.

He also said the electric motors of water supply works and sewerage disposal works had also been disappeared and the residents had repeatedly requested the authorities for the provision of the facilities but to no avail.

Agency deputy director Saeed Akhtar said that for the restoration of electricity wires and transformers, at least Rs20 million were required.

PML-N MPA Amjad Ali Javed told Dawn he had moved a motion in the Punjab Assembly on the issue and Punjab Housing Minister Malik Nadim Kamran had said on the floor that Rs6.28 million had been granted for the restoration of services for the colony and the work would be completed before June 30. He said he would soon meet the minister to remind him his words.
