PESHAWAR, July 24: A juvenile court has convicted a man for molesting and killing a young girl and sentenced him to five years in prison.

The court presided over by the district and sessions judge, Hayat Ali Shah, observed that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused, Ghani Khan of Swathi gate area. The court directed that he should pay diyat amount of Rs280,000 to the legal heirs to the deceased girl.

The girl was taken to an under-construction building by the accused where she was molested and subsequently killed. The police recovered the body of the girl, which was put in a sack, from the building and an FIR was registered on Nov 4, 2000  at Pishtakhara police station.

Hidayatullah, father of the girl was complainant in the case.

The accused was arrested by the police who confessed to the crime during initial investigation.

ACQUITTED: An additional district and sessions judge, Shehbar Khan, acquitted a person in a murder case here on Tuesday.

The accused Yar Khan of Sufaid Dehri was arrested on April 19, 1994 for killing a person, Amanullah.

The complainant in the case was Hidayatullah, brother of the deceased. He claimed that the accused, Yar Khan was suffering from some mental ailment. He added that on the day the murder was committed Shehbar Khan entered the shop of the deceased and fired at him, resulting in his brother’s death.

The complainant said that he was not present on the spot, however, his nephew Zafar Iqbal had witnessed the whole scene.

As the accused was a mental patient, he was later on released on bail.
