KARACHI: The Young Doctors’ Association (YDA) on Monday suspended their weeklong protest at the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for the next 11 days after the provincial health secretary assured them that their stipends would be raised in a week, officials said.

“We are postponing our protest for 11 days and will resume it after that if our demands are not met,” said Dr Waris Jakhrani while speaking to Dawn.

He said he had led a delegation to meet health secretary Dr Fazlullah Pechuho at the latter’s office where he assured them that their stipends would be raised as per the government’s policy in a week.

“We hope our problem will be solved by then. Thus, we are postponing our protest until March 10,” said Dr Jakhrani.
